  • Mega Buzz on Bones, NCIS, Grey's and More! | Today's News: Our Take | 9/25/2008
Senior editors Matt Mitovich and Mickey O'Connor answer your questions.Tell me that Hart Hanson is not seriously thinking of having Booth's brother, Jared, and Bones get into a relationship with each other. – SharonMatt: "Relationship" can be such a nasty word. Brennan most certainly will be attracted to the upstanding Navy officer, I am assured, and he to her. But really, how en fuego can these two get in just the two episodes Brendan Fehr is signed on for? I need at least four outings to... read more be the first to leave a comment
  • Critics' Notebook: Worst Show of the Century? | Matt Roush | 9/24/2008
Here we are at "hump night" of the first week of the official TV season. Or, given that NBC is giving us a line-up of the atrocious Knight Rider, the dishonestly monikered America's Got Talent and the turgid Lipstick Jungle, maybe we should rechristen Wednesdays "lump night." read more 1 Comment

House placed second with 12.2 million (down 16 percent week-to-week), but topped the demos. Biggest Loser (7.18 million) lost 615 thou, followed by the debut of ABC's Opportunity Knocks (6.6 million). • Exclusive: NCIS Investigates Gibbs' Past; Ralph Waite Guest-Stars | Today's News: Our Take | 9/24/2008
This season, NCIS will do something it has rarely done: Tell us a little something about Leroy Jethro's background.TVGuide.com has learned exclusively that in the Oct. 14 episode, when a pair of Marines are ambushed, the NCIS team's investigation leads them to no less than Gibbs' hometown. There, viewers will meet Gibbs' father — played by guest-star Ralph Waite (The Waltons, Cool Hand Luke) — as well as learn secrets about the enigmatic special agent."Taking Gibbs [played by Mark... read more be the first to leave a comment

  • I was wondering if the threat ... | Matt Roush | 9/22/2008
Question: I was wondering if the threat of disbanding the NCIS cast is just the big shots' way of keeping the salary demands in check as they hire each one back. I'm not going to watch the series if the crew is replaced. Except maybe Tony. Answer: I wouldn't look for anything more sinister in splitting the team apart than the producers' desire to (using the old refrain) shake things up a bit. The actors aren't going anywhere (even if the characters are for now scattered around the globe),... read more be the first to leave a comment

Senior editors Matt Mitovich and Mickey O'Connor answer your questions! E-mail us your own spoilery needs. You are doing a terrific job with Mega Buzz, but nowhere have I seen anything mentioned about NCIS and the paper the new director took out of a file (I thought it was his own?) and destroyed. Can you scoop the significance of it? — Al Matt: First of all, Al, thank you for the kind words about the column. Mickey and I find great joy and take tremendous pride in it. • Please tell me that they are ... | Matt Roush | 8/8/2008
Question: Please tell me that they are not going to fire most of the NCIS actors. I can't believe they would fool with a good thing. In the last episode of the season, the new director told the group they were all going to different departments. Please say it isn't so! Answer: It is my pleasure to tell you that they are not going to fire most (if any, to my knowledge) of the current NCIS cast, nor are they going to seriously mess with the ensemble formula of the show (unlike what happened... read more be the first to leave a comment
  • Luckily for those of us who ... | Matt Roush | 7/18/2008
Question: Luckily for those of us who do not live on planet Charles or critic-land, NCIS does exist for those of us who do enjoy the show. I have to wonder if Charles even watches NCIS. There have been plenty of "life-changing" character experiences on this show, but I won't bore you by listing them. Let me just say that I love this show because when at its best, it does not take itself too seriously, it is witty and not nearly as dark and disturbing as the other... read more be the first to leave a comment

  • I was disappointed after JAG ... | Matt Roush | 7/14/2008
Question: I was disappointed after JAG shut down after 10 years, but NCIS has been a very satisfying successor. I am wondering if the writers or producers have ever thought about bringing some of the old JAG characters into some of the future NCIS stories. Not necessarily as ongoing characters, as Gibbs has to remain Number 1, of course. It would be kind of interesting to catch a glimpse of Harm, Sarah, etc. in a hallway or on an elevator. Or Gunny could be in the area at Quantico or in D.C.... read more be the first to leave a comment
  • A while back, somebody wrote ... | Matt Roush | 7/14/2008
Question: A while back, somebody wrote to ask why critics talk so much about low-rated shows instead of hits like NCIS. I think the simple answer is that the low-rated shows are more interesting. On NCIS, you always know that Gibbs will bully Tony and Tony will bully Probie. They'll come up with a wrong answer 15 minutes from the end and the right answer 5 minutes from the end. The characters' personal quirks never affect their work. Nobody will have life-changing experiences unless it's a... read more be the first to leave a comment

Thank you all for the outstanding response and terrific questions. On with this week's buzz! Lois fans from Smallville have one request: Throw us a freakin' bone here! Please tell us she will finally be in every episode in Season 8. — LukeMatt Mitovich: Would that I could, Luke (and the scores of others seeking such assurance). • After watching the finale of ... | Matt Roush | 5/26/2008
Question: After watching the finale of NCIS, I wonder if the writers did not see House this season. While I agree that reassigning an entire team can shake up a show and give it new life if done well, NCIS was not in a place where it needed to be shaken up and House failed to adequately integrate the old and new teams. NCIS is not in a position where integration of the old and new teams is possible. Unless they do an episode in Israel, with the Ronald Reagan offshore and a cybercrime…but how... read more be the first to leave a comment

  • I have read your column for ... | Matt Roush | 4/21/2008
Question: I have read your column for the last couple of years, and I rarely see any comments about NCIS. Do you not like the show? I love it, and I am very happy to see its return rank No. 3 in viewers for Tuesday. I recently read that a cast member is leaving the show. The only person I would be happy to see go is Lauren Holly. I don't think she is a bad actress, but she does not seem to have any chemistry with Mark Harmon, and their characters were supposed to have had an affair. The Shepard... read more be the first to leave a comment
  • Exclusive: NCIS Star Goes AWOL! | Today's News: Our Take | 4/8/2008
There's another shake-up brewing over at NCIS, only this time it's happening on screen.CBS and Paramount declined comment, but sources confirm to me exclusively that a major castmember — a series regular — is on the way out. And as tempted as I am to blab this person's identity, after much soul searching, I've decided that doing so would prove WTS (Way Too Spoilery). And here's why: The actor in question will exit the series in a dramatic fashion. I might even go so far as to call it... read more be the first to leave a comment
