  • For Moonlight Fans, a "Bite" of Good News | DVD News | 9/17/2008
People want their Mick at night... and in the daytime... and, heck, whenever else they please. And yet thus far, the avid fans of CBS' short-lived Moonlight have been frustrated by the lack of a release date for a DVD set. Further exacerbating the sorry sitch is the fact that a November Region 2 (aka European) release was announced while Statesiders were left in limbo. read more be the first to leave a comment

  • CBS at Press Tour: Life After Grissom | Matt Roush | 7/18/2008
If the season opener of CSI is any indication—CBS gave critics screeners of the episode this week—William Petersen is going to get quite the emotional workout in his final 10 episodes as a series regular. He gives one of his strongest performances to date as he grapples with the aftermath of the climactic shooting of Warrick (Gary Dourdan) in last season’s cliffhanger shocker. The episode also brings Jorja Fox’s Sara (looking softer and prettier) back into the picture, at... read more be the first to leave a comment
  • I just wanted to thank you ... | Matt Roush | 6/30/2008
Question: I just wanted to thank you for being blunt but honest about the odds of Moonlight being renewed. The fandom has kind of gone nuts, and it feels like people are being lied to and fed false information to boost the egos of a few fans who get off on the attention and adulation of an eager fandom. I don't really buy the DirecTV info, and can't see any reason why they would put any stock into an online poll at all, let alone one on a fanboard. Not only are you dealing with a severely... read more be the first to leave a comment
  • Moonlight Is Still Dead — What's Next? | Today's News: Our Take | 6/24/2008
Not to beat a dead vampire, but despite all the last-ditch efforts — by the CW, TNT, DirecTV — Moonlight is actually dead, according to the A HREF="http://www.thrfeed.com/2008/06/moonlight-is-de.htmlHollywood Reporter. Their source says the sets have been dismantled, and the show's soundstage will soon be occupied by Simon Baker's new drama The Mentalist.Although I wasn't a regular viewer of Moonlight, I am sad for its passing, since it's nice when a show generates such a devoted fan... read more be the first to leave a comment
  • You've said that once a show ... | Matt Roush | 6/20/2008
Question: You've said that once a show is canceled, it is pretty much gone. Is it your opinion/educated guess that we (and I know you must be sick of questions about this) should give up on seeing Moonlight picked up and new episodes produced? There was talk that CW was considering doing it. They didn't. Then last weekend at a rally in LA, one of the show producers mentioned the Sci Fi Channel being a possibility. Now we find out Sci Fi said no. Are there any networks considering it? Is Joel... read more be the first to leave a comment
  • This Bites: Why Moonlight Won't Live On at the CW | Today's News: Our Take | 5/27/2008
Moonlight fans hoping to see Alex O'Loughlin and his vampire-drama buddies resurrected by the CW had their dreams squashed when Media Rights Capital officially released the Sunday line-up it had developed for the fifth network. Addressing the decision to pass up the opportunity to pick up the cult hit and its eight million viewers, MRC TV president Keith Samples explains to Variety, "It just didn't seem in the end that it was the right thing to do at this moment in time."We're going down a new... read more be the first to leave a comment
  • Do you think that CBS will ... | Matt Roush | 5/26/2008
Question: Do you think that CBS will ever be bold enough to try and break their crime procedural mold? Just look at their line-up! Every single show (except for a few reality shows and maybe Ghost Whisperer) is extremely similar to each other. They cater to one audience only, and seem extremely stubborn to change it. This season they put a couple new shows out there with a bit of a different focus, but what did they do? They canceled every single one of them! Even the one with the most... read more be the first to leave a comment
  • I must say how disappointed I ... | Matt Roush | 5/26/2008
Question: I must say how disappointed I was when I heard Moonlight was being canceled. I had only started watching it a few episodes ago, but that was enough to get me hooked. There's a series of books which I am sure you have heard of called Twilight. They of course deal with vampires and werewolves, and a human falling on love with a vampire. If it wasn't for those amazing books, I probably wouldn't have started to watch Moonlight. These books are selling out nationwide, and women especially... read more be the first to leave a comment
  • I respectfully disagree with ... | Matt Roush | 5/23/2008
Question: I respectfully disagree with your comments that the cancellation of Moonlight is the same old thing as with other shows. You see, before I started Googling Moonlight and checking the sites out there, I thought I was alone in my addiction to this show. But I have found there are many many more of us out there. I am a 39-year-old female application developer, and before this show I had never e-mailed or called about a program, blogged, had a MySpace account, or watched a You Tube... read more be the first to leave a comment
  • I'm sure by now you're tired ... | Matt Roush | 5/23/2008
Question: I'm sure by now you're tired of the hubbub and furor that the Moonlight cancellation has caused — I know it had emotionally exhausted me — but last week's final episode made me feel much better. When it ended, with Mick and Beth in each other's arms, with him telling her he loved her and that the important thing was "now," I felt a sense of real closure. I felt that my favorite show wasn't going off to the big black wasteland of canceled series without giving me, and Mick... read more be the first to leave a comment
  • Finale Fever: The Critic's Notebook | Matt Roush | 5/19/2008
As the season rushes to a close, you win some, you lose some. Take Steve Carell, who got a bonus in Thursday’s finale of The Office (one of the rare hour-long episodes that didn’t wear out its welcome) with the arrival of Amy Ryan as new HR chief Holly. I’ll miss Toby, but for as long as she stays, she’s terrific. Two nights later, however, Carell presided over a miserably and all-too-typically unfunny season finale of Saturday Night Live—sparked only by two cameos by... read more be the first to leave a comment
  • Along with millions of ... | Matt Roush | 5/19/2008
Question: Along with millions of others, I'm a big fan of Moonlight. Although its ratings were not great, it usually won its timeslot on Friday night. I also realize Friday is not a big viewership night, but I think a lot more people were watching Moonlight than the Nielsen ratings indicate. From what I can tell, since it's on Friday night when many people are out on the town, it seems that many viewers DVR it and watch it the next day. Then there are the viewers who download full episodes, not... read more be the first to leave a comment
  • I know you'll be getting ... | Matt Roush | 5/16/2008
Question: I know you'll be getting millions of heartbroken letters from fans of TV shows (in addition to Moonlight) that were cancelled, but I'm writing because my feelings this season are bigger than my normal disappointment from upfronts. I actually think I'm done with network TV. I am so upset with the trend to cancel shows that don't instantly perform that I will be tuning out and going to cable. First Veronica Mars, then Jericho and finally the stake in the heart of Moonlight. It is so... read more be the first to leave a comment
  • Is there any possibility that ... | Matt Roush | 5/16/2008
Question: Is there any possibility that another network might pick up Moonlight, now that CBS has canceled it? I know that the show was on the bubble, but I was really surprised by its demise, considering all the buzz that surrounds it. I hope that you are enjoying the upfronts! Answer: Thanks, but I'd be enjoying them a lot more if they didn't throw curveballs like the Moonlight cancellation my way. My instinct, as always, is to say there's little if no chance that anyone will come along... read more be the first to leave a comment
  • The Moonlight Goes Out | Matt Roush | 5/14/2008
I’ll admit it. I’m floored. I was wrong. I was naïve. I drank the bloody Kool-Aid and started thinking like a fan (even though I always had my critical reservations). Up until last weekend, when the prognostications started turning sour, I truly thought CBS would give its cult romantic-mystery vampire drama Moonlight a long leash and a chance to work out its kinks—the narrative ones, that is; the kinkiness of the vampire romance was actually working—with a second-season... read more be the first to leave a comment
  • Will the CW Bring Moonlight Back to Life? | Today's News: Our Take | 5/14/2008
I almost hesitate to pass this along, for fear of fostering false hope. But a Moonlight source confirms that Warner Bros. is shopping the show around to other outlets, one of which is the CW. (DeadlineHollywoodDaily says that Media Rights Capital, the firm contracted by the CW to program its Sunday-night block, is among those being wooed.)The rumored possibility of salvation came just as Warner Bros. was poised to start striking down the vampire drama's sets. Instead, they will hold off on the... read more be the first to leave a comment
  • Fall TV: Moonlight Has Drawn its Last Blood | Today's News: Our Take | 5/13/2008
It's the news no one here wanted to report, but alas, it must be shared. CBS — which earlier today renewed to Old Christine, How I Met Your Mother and The Unit — has opted not to bring back Moonlight for a second season.Though the vampire-detective drama boasted a fantastically passionate and wonderfully generous (they held a blood drive, people!) fan base, the buzz is that the Eye simply was not happy with Moonlight's retention of its Ghost Whisperer lead-in. At last tally, Mick... read more be the first to leave a comment
