  • Ask Matt: Analyzing Daisies' Wilting Ratings, Defending Grey's Creator and More! | Matt Roush | 10/10/2008
TV Guide's Senior Critic Matt Roush takes your TV questions. Have a rant, rave or burning question about your favorite show you'd like addressed? E-mail him here. Question: I'm devastated, but not necessarily surprised, by the early ratings for Pushing Daisies. I thought it was risky of ABC to leave a show this fragile and unique off the air for so long and expect viewers to flock to its return. It's sad that something this unique, this creative and this original just can't "click"... read more 19 Comments
  • Grey's Anatomy: Episode Recap: "Here Comes the Flood" | TV Show Recaps | 10/10/2008
This week Meredith got her first dose of what life will be like living under the same roof with Derek and the change just might cost her some friends. • Grey's Plays Doctor with BSG Star, Alias Alum | Today's News: Our Take | 10/3/2008
Grey's Anatomy is looking to clean up this sweeps with the addition of two very familiar faces. In the same November episode (exact airdate TBD, thank you, McCain and Obama), Mary McDonnell (aka Battlestar Galactica's Roslin) and Melissa George (Vaughn's eeeeeevil wife on Alias) will begin recurring roles on the ABC serial. McDonnell will play a surgeon scrubbing in at Seattle Grace, while George will appear as an intern who very well may further complicate Callie and Erica's already-sticky... read more be the first to leave a comment
  • Ask Matt: Applauding Office's Pam-Jim Coupling, Settling the Grey's Debate and More! | Matt Roush | 10/3/2008
Question: I wanted to write to applaud the writers of The Office for taking the road less traveled. They have managed, it seems, to do something that most other shows have been too afraid to try: keeping their main romantic couple together and have their relationship be both happy and entertaining. Years upon years of TV watching have kept me waiting for the other shoe to drop for Jim and Pam, but The Office has handled their coupling with perfect care. What are your thoughts on Jim and Pam?... read more be the first to leave a comment
  • Last week's Grey's Anatomy ... | Matt Roush | 10/3/2008
Question: Last week's Grey's Anatomy premiere reminded me why I love television. For anyone reading between the lines, you could hear the writers responding directly to all of the viewer's criticisms over the last two seasons: "Look, we hear what you viewers have been saying. We aren't your favorite show anymore. This season we are going to make you remember why this show was No. 1." A couple of shows made commentaries like this post-writer's strike as well (House's nurses' strike... read more be the first to leave a comment
  • I don't think you get it. ... | Matt Roush | 10/3/2008
Question: I don't think you get it. Shonda Rhimes went to many media outlets (including TV Guide) and announced over and over again what the whole "for good" meant. She went into detail about how the strike made her come to this choice to end the on/off and how she sat both Dempsey and Pompeo down to talk about this and how happy they were with the story. It's even on the season 4 DVD, with Betsy Beers stating they were together for good. It was more than some flip comment from... read more be the first to leave a comment
  • I just read an interview with ... | Matt Roush | 9/29/2008
Question: I just read an interview with Grey's Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes where she made this statement about her core show couple of Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey): "For good' doesn't necessarily go past this season," Rhimes says. "But they're definitely together for good for now." This is just one example of many where Rhimes continually uses the media to make statements to her fans to either create buzz or pacify them, only to come back and go... read more be the first to leave a comment

  • “Dream a Little Dream of Me” | TV Show Recaps | 9/26/2008
Fairytales dont come true Meredith uttered as she stood in the very same spot we last saw her in Season 4 in the midst of her house of candles Suddenly we were reminded of all the things we feared might happen when Derek left her that night to end things with Rose Could things already be coming to a crashing halt If you only caught the first few minutes of this episode you might have thought the fairytale ended with a fatal car crash involving Derek Thankfully that scene wasnt real as we... read more be the first to leave a comment
  • Back to Business on Thursdays | Matt Roush | 9/25/2008
For the last few seasons, Thursday was unquestionably the busiest night of the TV week, but it now has serious competition. Monday, especially the first hour of prime-time, is a logjam nightmare of strong choices. And this Sunday is one hot mess, with ABC launching its re-energized leap-into-the-future Desperate Housewives and Brothers & Sisters while Showtime kick-starts dazzling new seasons of Dexter and Californication while HBO continues with its kicky True Blood-Entourage combo, adding... read more be the first to leave a comment

Senior editors Matt Mitovich and Mickey O'Connor answer your questions.Tell me that Hart Hanson is not seriously thinking of having Booth's brother, Jared, and Bones get into a relationship with each other. – SharonMatt: "Relationship" can be such a nasty word. Rose is carrying Derek's child?! Grey's Anatomy fans who caught the brand-new promo for Season 5 were not the only ones caught off-guard by this baby bombshell. But is it bona fide, or culled from a dream/nightmare sequence?Grey's creator Shonda Rhimes explicitly said in a May podcast that while one of the couples who locked lips in the Season 4 finale soon might find themselves in a family way, "Rose will not be pregnant." And Rhimes is sticking to that testament. Responding to the... read more be the first to leave a comment
  • Is Amy Madigan returning as a ... | Matt Roush | 8/29/2008
Question: Is Amy Madigan returning as a semi-permanent fixture at Seattle Grace? Meredith still has unresolved issues, and I think Derek could use a little therapy, too. The doctors on Grey's Anatomy have far more problems than the patients. Answer: No argument here, although I doubt I'd be keen on watching weekly therapy/whining sessions. I'm told that Amy Madigan is expected back this season, but no word on how frequently, which leads me to believe she'll be something less than a regular.... read more be the first to leave a comment

Question: I just read the Grey's Anatomy article in the new issue of TV Guide. I was extremely disappointed that there was no mention (again) of Alex's character. Do you know if there will be any major storyline for the character in Season 5? Alex fans (well, me at least) have been waiting season after season for a major arc for him. He's the only original intern that has not had a major arc focused on him. It's about time, don't you think? Answer: All I know is what we printed, and I... read more be the first to leave a comment

Premise: Surgical residents at a Seattle teaching hospital hone their bedside manners on and off the job in this medical drama, which parlayed a cushy initial time slot (post-'Desperate Housewives') and a hefty dollop of sex and romance into immediate success. Indeed, in the opener, intern Meredith Grey sleeps with attending Derek ('McDreamy') Shepherd the night before starting work at Seattle Grace and discovers the next day that he's her boss. Their romantic ups and downs became the series' keystone.
