  • It's all Greek to Jesse McCartney | Today's News: Our Take | 9/29/2008
Greek has got Jesse McCartney right where they want him — on the show. The singer has joined the cast of the ABC Family hit for the second season, the network has announced.Playing Andy, a high school pal of Paul James' Calvin, McCartney's character will, uh, fraternize with both Kappa Tau and Omega Chi as a coveted pledge.McCartney, who has flexed his acting muscles on Summerland, isn't the only new face at Cyrpus-Rhodes University. Ken Marino, he of Veronica Mars fame, will guest star in the mid-season opener as a summer camp counselor.Greek will return to airwaves in spring 2009.Is McCartney a good addition for the show? Or should he not be living the Greek life? — Joyce Eng read more be the first to leave a comment
  • Mega Buzz on Daisies, Numbers, Whisperer and More! | Today's News: Our Take | 9/17/2008
Senior editors Matt Webb Mitovich and Mickey O'Connor answer your questions! E-mail us your own spoilery needs.Make a pie-eater happy. Give me some juicy Pushing Daisies scoop! — CeciliaMickey: Remember how Ned inadvertently "killed" Chuck's dad when he was a kid? Well, let's just say that Chuck and her dead dad are going to have more in common than blue eyes or a love of cheese.I am a longtime NumNut and can't wait until Oct. 3 for the new season of Numbers. Will Charlie get his clearance back, and if so, how long will he/we have to wait? – LesleyMatt: Two people stand in the way: Keith Carradine, guest-starring this season as a veteran fed who holds Charlie's future in his hands, and... Charlie himself. Yeah, it seems Mr. Epps has a big decision to make about exactly how badly he wants to be reinstated. (By the way, the "NumNut" name? Very unsettling.)I am forced to watch 90210 online. Do you know when the network plans to make each episode available? —... read more be the first to leave a comment
  • A few weeks ago, you reviewed ... | Matt Roush | 9/8/2008
Question: A few weeks ago, you reviewed Greek, and frankly I was a little surprised you weren't a fan. It's not the greatest show ever, but it's well-acted and generally well-written. Sometimes I just need to watch something entertaining and safe, not groundbreaking, unique, or controversial (and I say this as a person whose favorite show is The Wire). Plus, I can't think of any other teenage show that has a storyline about a main character questioning their major and regaining their love for polymer science with silly putty. Regardless of your opinion on Greek, it made me think to ask: What is a show you enjoy that isn't really groundbreaking, unique or controversial, but just simply fun and "mindless," for lack of a better word? Meaning, pop candy that you don't really have to think about long after and just enjoy while it's on. And you can't say Gossip Girl because that borders on controversial. Answer: We all need mind candy such as you describe, but my problem with... read more be the first to leave a comment
  • Just read your review on ... | Matt Roush | 8/29/2008
Question: Just read your review on Skins (which I'll have to check out) and Greek. I'm not going to argue that the latter is an excellent show that's going to go down in history next to The Wire or Arrested Development, but there is one element of Greek that I really do enjoy. These characters are some of the only that I can think of that actually watch TV. I just finished Netflixing the first release on DVD and simply got a little extra enjoyment out of the allusions to Grey's Anatomy, 24, CSI and more (they may be a little skewed in favor of ABC, but I accept that). And when a character was reading Mode magazine in one episode, I smiled. That's all I wanted to say. I can't think of another show where the characters cared anything about pop culture other than Gilmore Girls, and that was almost all old and obscure stuff. It's nice that the cutesy characters of Greek can solve their cutesy problems in time to sit down in front of the TV on Thursday night. Answer: I remember getting... read more be the first to leave a comment
