Ugly Betty placed second with 9.78 mil, a 12 percent decline from a year ago. My Name is Earl's back-to-back episodes averaged 6.4 mil, plunging 25 percent from its previous premiere. Smallville (4.1 mil) slipped 270 thou.9 pmGrey's Anatomy dominated its entire two-hour run, averaging 18.3 million viewers, a 10 percent dip from last season's opener. Delivering 9.2 mil, The Office dipped 470K year-over-year. For the last few seasons, Thursday was unquestionably the busiest night of the TV week, but it now has serious competition. Monday, especially the first hour of prime-time, is a logjam nightmare of strong choices. And this Sunday is one hot mess, with ABC launching its re-energized leap-into-the-future Desperate Housewives and Brothers & Sisters while Showtime kick-starts dazzling new seasons of Dexter and Californication while HBO continues with its kicky True Blood-Entourage combo, adding the raucous sketch-com Little Britain USA this week while CBS revs up a new season of Emmy champ The Amazing Race leading into Cold Case and a transplanted The Unit while Fox brings back its durable animated lineup. Cheers to Jason Lee for playing along with Celebrity Family Feud. At first, I was shocked when I heard My Name Is Earl's headliner was joining his costars on the NBC game show. After all, he starred in one of last year's biggest movies (okay, so it was Alvin and the Chipmunks, but still...). And Steve Carell, Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski and Jenna Fischer all chose not to accompany their Office mates to the Feud. Then I watched the episode and saw that Lee and Co. were playing in character, and I realized such a tacky stunt fit perfectly with Earl's trash-tastic aesthetic. The best moment: Earl's answer to what a woman wouldn't want to hear about the guy she almost married: "That he's her cousin." Kinda funny today, sharing news on both Seth Green and Jamie Kennedy, whom many would be hard-pressed to tell apart if asked. But I digress.Seth will guest-star on My Name Is Earl this season, playing a former Make-a-Wish child whose dream of starring in an action movie was dashed by Earl.
