The Bad Seed: Review

An erratic but compelling film that lingers long after the fade-out. Patty McCormack is unforgettable as an eight-year-old liar, cheat and murderess whose own mother (Nancy Kelly) is convinced is a bad seed. Mother, of course, is right, but no one believes her. Director Mervyn LeRoy deftly maneuvers what could have been a stagey and talky script (based on the stage hit by Maxwell Anderson) and keeps the action moving at a brisk clip.
